SDP Working Groups:

The purpose of each of these working groups are to develop, plan and implement project activities in each of their individual areas of focus.

Community Building

Co-chaired by a TCHC and Market resident (elected annually), the purpose of the Community Building Working Group is to create accessible spaces, events and provide support to groups that bring residents together by removing social and physical barriers. This working group seeks to build bridges between: market and TCH residents, varying faiths, ethnicity and cultural groups, as well as between residents and agencies/institutions. The group also aspires to provide support to women groups and address barriers, discrimination and stigma faced by BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities.

2022 Regent Park Space Needs Assessment Report
Community Space Needs Report -A Community Building Working Group led efforts to inform the City of Toronto, TCHC and Tridel of the community’s need for office space, recreational space, prayer space, programming and safe activity spaces in Regent Park. The report, published on March 18, 2022, is a resource and space needs assessment. The report contains 30 requests for space submissions.

Employment and Economic Development

Co-chaired by a TCHC and Market resident (elected annually), the purpose of the SDP Employment and Economic Working Group is to increase employment rates and entrepreneurial opportunities for residents of Regent Park.

This report aims to get a clearer understanding of the employment and entrepreneurial resources that are available to community members in Regent Park, as well as the needs that have been identified by the community. The EED Entrepreneur's Online Learning Series (2023)
The Learning Series was a EED community wealth building initiative. The series ran for 7 months, from May 2023 till December 2023. The project was designed to support 20 female identified entrepreneurs, grow their knowledge and build their confidence in order to develop, launch and run their own entrepreneurial endeavors within the Regent Park community. The EED has used the course materials to develop an online Learning Series based on the user's needs. This online platform allows new entrepreneurs and Learning Series alumni to access the learning material free. The online course is hosted on its own website and is accessible for free:

Unlocking the Potential for Community Wealth Building in Regent Park Report (2023)
A feasibility study to explore Community Wealth Building as an approach to pursuing a fair and inclusive economy in the city of Toronto. The Centre for Social Innovation, the lead organization, partnered with the Regent Park Social Development Plan Network including the SDP Employment and Economic Development table and the SDP Stakeholders Table as well as other agencies to conduct multiple community consultation and learning sessions. The project also dug deep into community wealth case studies and literature from around the world to created this document that will help lay the groundwork to guide and inform the next steps of Community Wealth Building in Regent Park and City of Toronto.

Workforce Integrator Project
This project connects residents to employment partners by coordinating services, aligning partnerships, and leveraging neighbourhood supports to reduce gaps and improve transitions. The Workforce Integration Project is funded through the Employment and Economic Development Working Group, which focuses on increasing sustainable employment rates for local residents.

Safety

Co-chaired by a TCHC and Market resident (elected annually), the purpose of the SDP Regent Park Safety Network is to increase community safety and well being for residents and their families living in Regent Park.

The 2018 Safety Action Plan
Led by the SDP Safety Network, the Community Crisis Response Network (CCRN) and TCH the following Regent Park Community Safety Action Plan was developed in response to several incidents of violence that occured in 2017. The strategy aims to create longer-term solutions to improve safety and prevent crime in the neighbourhood.

Communications and Outreach

Co-chaired by a TCHC and Market resident (elected annually), the purpose of the Communications and Outreach working group is to make information about the SDP network, its working groups and projects easily accessible for everyone in the community and to coordinate the outreach, recruitment and support necessary for new members to participate in the SDP network.

SDP Network Planning Committee

Guided by the SDP Network Terms of Reference, the RPSDP Network Planning Committee shares decision making with the SDP Stakeholders' Table, and provides overall coordination and alignment for the SDP Network by:

Supporting the SDP Stakeholder Table to ensure that the meetings are effective for reporting, decision making and engagement;
Supporting the four Working Groups and the committees;
Reviewing strategic direction, action priorities, and stakeholder and resident engagement;
Identifying information and/or expertise that the Network requires in order to make sound and informed decisions;
Developing different engagement approaches that increase the capacity of all stakeholders to participate in the network.
Acting as a liaison with stakeholders and government representatives
Establishing standing committees,sub-committees and ad-hoc committees as needed.
